Mattress banking in Zimbabwe. Iraq has this same problem, learn what they are doing about it.


"More and more people in Zimbabwe keep their money at home rather than in the bank. Economists argue that the public lost trust in the traditional banking system since some saved their money when the government switched from the US dollar to the Zimbabwe dollar in 2019. This is colloquially referred to as “Mattress Banking.”


Despite the government's claim that the Zimbabwe dollar was equal to the US dollar, its value dropped, causing people to lose money. Yet, keeping money at home has made it easier for robbers to steal cash.  


Home-based robberies in Zimbabwe have increased in recent months!
