Al-Sadr Issues a Demand and a Response if His Demand is Not Met


The issuie of al-Sadr wanting to close the US Embassy in Iraq over the US support of Israel won't go away.  In fact the international news story has grown more prevlant in the last 48 hours.   The US gov has alaready removed non-essential personal from the Embassy in Iraq.  Al-Sadr has plalced thousands and thousands of protestors on the streets of Baghdad in previous disputes.  The image above show Al-Sadr followers breaking into Parliament several months back. 


In response to Washington's "unconditional support" for Israel during its war with Hamas, influential religious leader Moqtada Sadr called on the Iraqi government to close the American embassy in Baghdad.


According to the Shiite cleric, who often criticizes the government, if the government and parliament do not respond, we will take a different stance that we will announce later.


Since Israel began bombing Gaza, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has criticised the "Zionist occupation," calling it a "genocide".


According to Israeli officials, Hamas militants stormed into Israel from the Gaza Strip on October 7, killing at least 1,400 people, most of whom were civilians.


Around 1,500 Hamas fighters were killed in clashes before Israel's army regained control of the attacked areas.


In Gaza, Israeli bombardments have killed more than 7,300 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas health ministry.


Regular protests are held in Iraq against the Israeli bombings and in support of the Palestinians.


As with Iran, Israel's sworn enemy, all Iraqi political factions support the Palestinian cause.


Attacks on US forces and coalition allies have mostly been claimed by the group "Islamic Resistance in Iraq" on Telegram channels linked to pro-Iran factions.


"Iranian-supported militias" are blamed for 16 such attacks in Iraq and Syria this month, according to the Pentagon.


Baghdad's government is supported by parties with close ties to Tehran, but it is also working to maintain relations with the United States, which has 2,500 soldiers in Iraq.


Baghdad promised to investigate the attacks on American soldiers on Monday.
