BREAKING NEWS: This is not good: US orders non-emergency staff to leave Baghdad embassy
Okay, we already received the information on the global travel warning for ALL US citizens, but this is an additional warning that is NOT good for our investment.
In response to recent attacks on American troops and personnel in Iraq, the U.S. State Department said U.S. citizens should not travel to Iraq.
According to the travel advisory, "Do not travel to Iraq because of terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and Mission Iraq's limited capacity to support U.S. citizens."
The conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza has prompted increased attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq and Syria. Last week, a U.S. warship shot down a dozen drones and four cruise missiles fired from Yemen by Iran-backed Houthis.
As a result of increased security threats against U.S. personnel and interests, the State Department advised eligible family members and non-emergency U.S. government personnel to leave the U.S. Embassy Baghdad and U.S. Consulate General Erbil.
During the Israel-Hamas war, which began after the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, Washington is on high alert for activity by Iran-backed groups.
