BREAKING NEWS: Iraq Averts Attack Military Actions in Kurdistan Region from Iran
In March, Iraq and Iran signed a border security agreement aimed at tightening the frontier with Iraq's Kurdish region, where Tehran claims armed Kurdish dissidents threaten its security.
According to Hussein, "the necessary measures were taken based on the agreement between Iraq and Iran to remove these groups from the border areas and house them in Iraqi Kurdistan camps."
Hussein said he would visit Tehran on Wednesday to deliver the message in person and prevent any escalation. Mr Hussein did not say whether the Iranian opposition groups were disarmed or whether wanted members had been handed over to Iran.
Tthere is little information on exactly how Iraq got the groups to move. There have been no reports of death or violence.
Iran has long accused Iraq's autonomous northern Kurdish region of sheltering terrorist groups engaged in attacks against the Islamic Republic, with Iran's Revolutionary Guards repeatedly targeting their bases.
Last month, Tehran's foreign ministry announced that Baghdad committed to disarming Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Iraq's Kurdistan region, closing their bases, and relocating them by September 19. Read Here: How Iran Threatened Military Action
According to Iranian officials, if the deadline is missed, Tehran could resume its regular attacks against dissident groups in Iraqi Kurdistan.
According to local authorities, the Revolutionary Guards fired missiles and drones at militant targets in Iraq's Kurdish region in September 2022.
Hussein said he would discuss with the Iranian side not to threaten violence or attack Kurdistan areas.
