Over 700,000 Pilgrims Travel to Iraq for First Wave of Arabeen 2.5 million Registered
In the first wave of the Arabeen procession, Iranian police estimated that more than 700,000 pilgrims traveled to Iraq for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, representing a 43% increase over last year.
To reach the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iranian and non-Iranian pilgrims (mainly Pakistani and Azerbaijani Shia pilgrims) cross six border crossings in the west of Iran.
Over 2,350,000 people have enrolled on the Samah website designed by Iranian authorities for religious pilgrimages, with 312,000 crossing into Iraq through the Mehran border crossing in Ilam Province.
According to Iranian authorities, over 700,000 Iranian pilgrims have been sent to Iraq from the six border crossings at the shared border with Iraq, a 43% increase from last year.
Iranian interior and health ministers visited the shared border crossings last weekend to inspect the facilities and relief equipment for Arbaeen pilgrims.
