al-Sadr calling for a one-million-man march in Baghdad to demonstrate solidary with Palestinians
To demonstrate solidarity with Palestinians, Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called for a million-man march in Baghdad's Al-Tahrir Square.
In a statement read by the Imam of Kufa Mosque, Al-Sadr urged all Iraqis, except those he labeled as corrupt, to participate in the demonstration, which is scheduled for the first Friday after the 17th of Rabi' al-Awwal (September 20), which coincides with the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
The statement called on all Iraqi brothers, except the corrupt, to take to the streets in a million-man march to show the deep sympathy of the Iraqi people for the Palestinian cause and Gaza's suffering brothers.
This is the second time the Shiite cleric has called for mass demonstrations in support of Palestine and Gaza, which are currently experiencing a catastrophic situation due to Israeli aggression that has killed more than 40,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
On October 9, 2023, hundreds of thousands marched in Baghdad to support Palestine following his previous call for a million-man demonstration.
