This conversation between the President of the United States, Biden, and the newly re-elected President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, is important to us because of South Africa's connections to China and Russia, neither of which are runner-ups for democracy.
The unspoken elephant in the room is BRICS and the BRICS movement and currency goals.
Anyway, this is the report from the U.S. Embassy in South Africa.
JULY 3, 2024
President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. spoke today with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa to commend the Republic of South Africa for forming a Government of National Unity and to congratulate him on his recent re-election by the National Assembly to serve again as President of the Republic of South Africa. President Biden highlighted South Africa’s legacy as a democratic leader, as South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy.
The two leaders discussed South Africa’s Government of National Unity and a commitment from all parties to work in partnership towards a growing economy, better jobs, safer communities, and a government that works for its people. They also discussed the U.S.-South Africa bilateral relationship, and areas of future partnership, including leadership in the G20. Together, the United States and South Africa are committed to deepening our cooperation and advancing our shared interests, including growing economic prosperity, combating the climate crisis, strengthening health systems, and ensuring that democracy delivers for all our people.
