Good News: Iraqi Finance Minister Working w/World Bank to Accelerate Banking Reforms
Taif Sami, the Iraqi finance minister, confirmed on Monday, April 2nd, 2024, that the government had developed plans to accelerate financial and banking reforms.
A statement cited by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported that Sami made his remarks during a meeting with Jean-Christophe Carret, World Bank Country Director for the Middle East Department, Richard Abdulnour, World Bank Country Manager and Special Representative in Iraq, and financial experts.
Meeting participants discussed development initiatives the World Bank supports to enhance the investment climate and boost the business and financial sectors.
In addition to the World Bank's support for the Iraqi government's economic reform program, the two sides stressed the importance of maintaining bilateral coordination for sustainable development.
According to the Iraqi Finance Minister, the ministry intends to expedite the financial and banking reforms to achieve economic balance and adjust the country's financial policies.
World Bank representatives observed that the Iraqi government and organization have been working together seriously and productively to provide professional assistance for development initiatives and financial reform.
