US Sanctioned Iraqi Airline and CEO for Allegedly Proving Assistance to Iran's Military Wing; Also Sanctioned Hamas for Abusing Cryptocurrencies
Iraqi airline Fly Baghdad and its CEO were sanctioned on Monday for allegedly providing military assistance to Iran's military wing, and Hamas was sanctioned for abusing cryptocurrencies since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel.
Israeli bombing campaigns on the Gaza Strip continue - killing 25,000 Palestinians so far, according to the Gaza Strip Health Ministry - while Iranian-backed militias in Iraq attack bases housing U.S. forces.
According to the Treasury Department, Fly Baghdad and its CEO, Basheer Abdulkadhim Alwan al-Shabbani, assisted Iran's military wing and its proxy groups in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.
“Iran and its proxies have sought to abuse regional economies and use seemingly legitimate businesses as cover for funding and facilitating their attacks,” said Treasury Undersecretary Brian E. Nelson. “In order to undermine the stability of the region, the United States will continue to disrupt Iran’s illicit activities.”
People and companies targeted by the sanctions are prohibited from doing business with Americans and from accessing U.S. property and bank accounts.
Editor's Note: This is NOT good. This is not good at all. When the US begins to sanction certain elements or entities within a country, it is difficult to separate the sanctioned organization from the none sanctioned organization.
