At dawn, rockets landed on the outskirts of the district housing government and diplomatic buildings, according to news agencies.
In a statement, an Iraqi security official said 14 Katyusha rockets were fired. Some struck near the embassy's gates, while others fell into the nearby Tigris river.
Al Jazeera's verification unit, Sanad, confirmed on social media that rockets had landed near the US embassy after sirens alerted people to duck and cover.
During one video, sirens are heard during explosions close to the building. Another shows an area of Baghdad's diplomatic zone with explosions in the background.
