Iraqi Prime Minister in Russia Today Here's Why
As the channel reported several days ago, the Iraqi Prime Minister is in Russia for a two-day summit.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the political adviser of Prime Minister Fadi al-Shammari stated that the visit of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to Russia will include Russian-Iraqi talks to discuss political, security, and economic issues as well as bilateral relations.
According to Al-Shammari, the summit meeting will address world peace, the energy file, Iraq's commitment to settle debts, and related financial obligations due to their impact on Iraq's credit rating.
He pointed out that "President Putin expressed his aspiration to discuss security in the Middle East and security files that enhance Iraq's internal security," adding that "Moscow confirmed its support for the development road project connecting Middle Eastern ports with Turkish and European ports through a network of roads, railways and energy infrastructure, as well as supporting Iraq's diversification of its economy to reduce its heavy dependence on oil."
According to Al-Shammari, "the visit will also include a discussion of oil and gas files, as cooperation in this sector is one of the most important aspects of the economic partnership between the two countries."
Al-Shammari pointed out that "the dangerous developments in occupied Palestine have been discussed, and Iraq has called for Russia to call on the permanent members of the Security Council to act urgently and stop the ongoing attacks on the Palestinian territories and targeting civilians."
According to Al-Shammari, "the oil, gas, and energy issue is at the top of the agenda of the talks since Iraq and the Russian Federation are the world's two largest oil producers and their influence on world stability and the stability of the oil market."
A statement by Al-Shammari concluded by saying that "Russia affirmed its support for Iraq's stability, the improvement of its investment environment, and economic growth. In addition, cooperation between the two countries can help Iraq diversify its economy and become more sustainable in the future."
