Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani met during the United Nations General Assembly in New York to further their dedication to strengthening the US-Iraq partnership, including upholding the Strategic Framework Agreement’s conditions.

The Secretary encouraged Iraq to develop energy resources sustainably, fight climate change, and re-open communications with Türkiye via pipeline. Additionally, Mr. Blinken supported cooperation between the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government for sustainability and stability. He also acknowledged Prime Minister Sudani's commitment to judicial independence in sentencing multiple people on terrorism charges in connection with the killing of US citizen Stephen Troell.

President Biden extended an invitation for a White House visit and concluded that the US is willing to help Iraq for a secure, stable, and sovereign future.

According to reports, US President Joe Biden has invited Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to visit the White House in the future.

It was reported that a date for the meeting would be set at a later date.
