Deadly drone attack at Airport in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region
The identity of the victims remains unknown at the airport near Sulaymaniyah.
Al Jazeera has reported that at least three people were killed in a suspected drone attack near Sulaymaniyah in the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of northern Iraq.
Mahmoud Abdelwahed, reporting from Baghdad for Al Jazeera, said the Arbat airport, located 50km (30 miles) east of Sulaimaniya, has been used by the Sulaymaniyah security apparatus to fight terrorism.
In the past, the airport was used for agricultural purposes.
The attack also injured three people.
Turkish drones have been hovering over the area for the past three days, according to Al Jazeera's Abdelwahid.
Several anti-Turkish and anti-Iranian groups operate in and around Sulaymaniyah, according to Al Jazeera's Abdelwahid, who added that we still don't know who is behind the attack.
A day before the attack, Iraq's federal government gave the semi-autonomous Kurdish region more funding so it could pay salaries.
