Zimbabwe Using US Dollar to Survive


According to the Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (ZimStat), 83% of all food purchases are made with US dollars.


Interestingly, the World Bank and UNICEF survey found that US dollar usage was higher in rural areas than in towns (indicating more e-payment options in urban areas).


Despite Zimbabwe's multi-currency system, the economy is literally dollarized.


President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has emphasized that Zimbabwe will not fully dollarize.


According to President Mnangagwa, no country has ever succeeded without its own resources.
