Iraqi F-16s destroyed a suspected Islamic State hideout in Mount Hamrin in Diyala province

As the Iraqi Armed Forces and the International Coalition have warned of the group's persistent threat, Iraqi F-16s destroyed a suspected Islamic State hideout in Mount Hamrin in Diyala province.

A press release from Iraq's Security Media Cell reported that fighter jets completely destroyed the hideout in the remote area where the group's remnants are suspected to have regrouped following its territorial defeat in 2017.

No causalities were reported in the release.

Regular air strikes are announced against suspected militants, mostly in Kirkuk, Saladin, and Diyala Provinces, where ground operations are also conducted against the radical group.

Since the end of the US-led coalition's combat mission against ISIS in late 2021, the Iraqi Air Force has increased its air campaign.

A top Iraqi official said in June that Iraqi airstrikes have killed at least 70 ISIS militants.

The terror group occupied Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city for nearly three years.

Having lost its self-styled caliphate to Kurdish, Iraqi, and international forces, the group has regrouped in remote parts of the country. It continues to attack civilians and security forces.

In disputed territories between Erbil and Baghdad, where ISIS is most active, Kurdistan's Peshmerga forces regularly conduct joint operations with Iraqi forces against ISIS.
