During his visit to the United States, many people were surprised to learn that the Iraqi President, Al-Saudani, visited the State of Michigan. This was because over 90,000 Iraqi people currently live in Wayne County, Michigan. According to the U.S. Census, Wayne County, which is home to the cities of Detroit and Dearborn, has 7.8% of its residents with Middle Eastern and North African ancestry.
The Prime Minister's visit was to a community of Iraqis who are now living in America but have maintained their connections with Iraq.
According to ABC News, Amos Hochstein, a senior adviser to Biden, visited Detroit in March to meet with Lebanese Americans. The meeting was to discuss efforts to prevent the conflict from spreading along Israel's northern border, where Hezbollah operates. In February, a White House official met with Arab American leaders in Dearborn to discuss the conflict as well.
