Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, the CEO of the Gulf Interconnection Authority, announced that the electrical connection project with Iraq is planned to be fully operational by late 2025. In a Wednesday interview with Saudi newspaper "Al-Youm", he also mentioned that next week they are planning on starting the implementation process of this interconnection., kuwaitt
Al-Ibrahim remarked that the Wafra station was built to bolster the electrical connection with Kuwait and act as a stepping stone for connecting to Iraq with a powerful grid serving both nations. There are talks with the Iraqi side to expand the electric interconnection to other parts of Iraq, even extending it to Turkey and having access to Europe through Iraq.
